HUMC Women's mission statement

Faith - Hope - love - in action!

Our purpose as sisters in Christ is to develop a creative, supportive Christian fellowship that participates in local community ministries and global ministries of the church.  Our prayer is that God will guide and bless our efforts to serve Him. We are Sisters in Christ in Action !!

MEETINGS

We meet on the third Thursday in fall and spring months either as a planning meeting or in scheduled activities. There are activities scheduled throughout the year.

Women of all ages are welcome!!  Come meet new friends and learn ways you can be involved in women’s ministries of Hickory Church.

ACTIVITIES

Each spring we make and sell over 3,000 chocolate covered Easter eggs to help fund activities and community service projects throughout the year.  All skill levels are welcome!  There is something for everyone! Come join the laughter, fun and fellowship!

We plan lunch and dinner out for ladies fellowship to “Chat ‘n’ Chew” several times each year.

We offer Art night and craft nights with ornaments, wreath making and other crafty interests.

As women, we are nurturers and plan activities not just for women but for families – such as Advent wreath making to help encourage family traditions that are Christ- centered.

Our annual Ladies Tea is held each spring.  Women are encouraged to invite friends, sisters, mothers, daughters, granddaughters – a time to celebrate the special women in out lives.  We have tea, (and cucumber punch) delicious finger foods, guest musicians, and a wonderful time of fellowship.

BUNCO night (and daytime BUNCO) are held every few months and open to women and older children.  Prizes are gift baskets or gift cards.

All women are encouraged to attend women’s retreats and special women’s conferences  when available -  to experience renewal of spirit and refresh as whole persons through Jesus Christ.

SERVICE

Our sisters in Christ provide meals for CAST, Vacation Bible School, and help with funeral receptions.

Each year we honor our senior church members with a July luncheon – “Celebrate Seniors.”  Men and women of our church are invited to this event designed to show our appreciation for their years of service and counsel.  Home cooked delicacies, photo booth, prizes for all attendees and a specific theme make each luncheon a special day for all who attend.  Our senior members have wonderful stories and memories to share and  we want them to feel treasured and appreciated.

Ladies vote to contribute monies and items to various organizations  each year such as:

  • Portlock Food Pantry

  • Chesapeake Free Clinic

  • HER Shelter

  • Pregnancy Crisis Center

  • Chesapeake Foster Care

  • Blanket Train to Appalachia

  • Burfort House for homeless women

  • Flood Buckets for Methodist Relief Committee that serves areas devastated by natural disasters,

  • Pancreatic Cancer Research

  • Kits for Methodist Conference missions, support for our youth and adult missions teams – among others.

At Hickory church women serve in the same capacities as men – such as lay leader, Bible study leaders, ushers, greeters, money counters, trustees, and coordinators of various churchwide activities/ministries.  YOU are welcome here!
